...that birthdays are wonderful things. Especially, when like mine, it lasts and lasts. Stopped by my PO Box today to find a lovely card from my parents and a beautiful card from my wonderful Q. Then stopped by to pick up package from my sis. Inside was the usual assortment of fun items, including magnets, Texas style lollies (shaped like hat, boot, the state, etc.). Two items, though, made me laugh like a loon for at least a half hour. Item the first: (click to see full image) Item the second:(click to see full image) DUDES, I got a MOUNTIE for my birthday!!!!!! And a fantastic bumper sticker that will immediately go on Simply Red. I'm still giggling!! Ran errands all morning, sorting out the property tax sticker for the car, mailed packages (Wendy, your book is in today's mail!) and sorted out more stuff for shredding. We authors (as do most folks) collect WAY the heck too much paper. I had print outs of my old stuff, other people's old stuff, fan fiction stories, Gutenberg items (this was before I got the Kindle). I've now got 15 medium size bags o'shredding. A local firm, BudgetShred is coming on Thursday to pick up. VERY reasonable, too. Next step in decluttering: finish listing the last set of books on eBay/half.com. I'm giving it until the end of October. If stuff doesn't sell by then, I'm donating everything to the library. Hope everyone is having a great back-to-business day after the long Labor/Labour Day weekend! Tags: birthday

Work has been a bit hectic these days so I'm way, way behind on the more social stuff - like posting, reading LJ and such. But, the mood struck me last night to post a variety of links of interest as I go through my RSS feeds. [sidebar: alsdkadjfladkjf stupid eljay posting interface didn't update the post like I wanted; then, when I edited and fixed, kept reverting back to the original post. ARRRGH. So I've had to reconstruct.] Linkspam: Some people are just plain assholes awardGene Hunt: vampire?Henry Jenkins: behind the glass - discussion of slash and a cool thingswithwings vid. John Scalzi's new gig. fangs_fur_fey have some lovely stuff going on, from interviews to the fascinating Monday topic-of-the-week post. Sidebar 2: Note to hyperfocused, and cereta who played the question meme with me. If you want a copy of the teaser sampler for Blood Bargain, e-me (mylima AT Gmail dot com). Send me mailing info and I'll get it out to you. :) If anyone else still wants to play - feel free - the post is here. I've got a bunch of the teaser books so come on and play! Last but not at all least, a VERY happy birthday to resonant8 ekaterinn raveninthewindHope your respective days were extremely special! Sigh, I had this lovely paragraph written about how my inconvenient and annoying insomnia last night led to me being really productive on the day job front (e.g., allowing me to catch up on some mundane, tedious, yet extremely necessary tasks...say, somewhere around midnight). But the stupid eljay interface ate it all. Both versions. So the short version: Couldn't sleep. Got up. Worked. Back to bed. Slept. TGIF to all and I sure hope I can wake up!! ::g:: (the groggy me is not to be trifled with!) Tags: birthday, linkspam, rl Current Location: Casa de la Lima Spirits: frustrated

First off, the very happiest of birthday wishes to the always lovely and wonderfully talented kassrachel! May the celebration of your day be as fabulous as you are. I've been watching New Amsterdam. and am liking it well enough. The premise is fairly interesting, though a bit Highlander meets Nick Knight, but no matter. The leads, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Zukeikha Robinson are both lovely and I enjoy them both immensely. I'm liking some of the plot twists, but am not quite as sold on the so-called "the one". Don't really see the chemistry between them. Love Omar, though. John Adams has been quite interesting - caught up on the first two episodes via On Demand. I didn't think Paul Giamatti had it in him, but I was quite pleasantly proven wrong. He, and the other cast members, are doing a bang up job. (Thanks to the show, I've got a new icon, too. ::trots it out::) I'm so glad it's Friday! The week went by too fast, mostly because there's been a great deal of work and stuff going on. I'm banging out the last bits of Blood Bargain and hope to have the final into Mme Editrix's hands in the next week and a half. WHEW! Today's Tor freebie is one of my favorite's - Tobias Buckell's Crystal Rain. I first heard of this book some time ago and then, when visiting San Diego for ConDor, was convinced to buy the hardcover by my favorite book pusher, Mysterious Galaxy's Patrick Heffernan. He said I'd love it and he was absolutely spot on. If you haven't signed up at Tor, it's not too late. (The freebies are in PDF format, and easily viewable in an eReader). Hope everyone has an amazing Friday! Tags: birthday, tor, tv Spirits: creative
