Happy May Day all! It's raining and chilly here, so not so much with the "ooh, spring weather" but much with the drearies. Oh well, can't have it all, I suppose. ::g:: Not really sure how it got to be May as life has seemed so accelerated lately. The meme/contest (sort of). I came back from Malice with a bunch of the teaser samplers. They contain the first 3 chapters of my upcoming book, Blood Bargain, plus the first 3 of Carole Nelson Douglas' new one, Brimstone Kiss. In the spirit of book pimps everywhere, I thought I'd do a contest. I couldn't really think of anything clever, so instead, I'm going to participate in the question meme that is going around and will send samplers to those of you that submit questions that amuse me. ::g:: Here you go: If you would be so kind, ask me the seven questions below. Just copy and paste them into a comment, replace the blanks with anything you want--personal, silly, surreal (e.g. 3. Donkeys or sandcastles and why?), or deep--and I'll answer honestly as I can! Then post this in your own LJ and see what kind of things people want to ask you! 1. What do you think of _____________ ? 2. When did you last ____________? 3. __________ or ___________ and why? 4. What did you ______________? 5. What's your favorite ______________? 6. How would you ______________? 7. Who would you most like to ________ ? Over at fangs_fur_fey, check out the Thursday interview with Melissa Marr ( melissa_writing. Cheers! Tags: contest, meme, writing Spirits: amused

1. What do you think of the split infinitive? Uhm, I haven't thought about it in years!
2. When did you last start writing something and decide that nope, it just wasn't going to work? A few weeks ago when finishing up the final on BLOOD BARGAIN. I found myself going down the wrong path and had to back up and rework a section.
3.Drafting on computer or longhand and why? Egads! Computer, always!! I type fast and the connection between brain and keyboard is near instantaneous. I find that I write longhand slowly and sloppily and it makes my brain hurt.
4. What did you wear yesterday? Jeans, my pi shirt (3.14 in big font, then progressively smaller text as it continues), and my Birkenstock sandals. This is why I love working at a tech firm!
5. What's your favorite episode of Torchwood? Damn good question! It's a toss up between "Captain Jack Harkness" and "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang".
6. How would you explain the premise of Doctor Who to someone who's never heard of it? It's a little black woman in a glass box...no wait, wrong phone box! It's the story of a Time Lord that travels through time and space in a special time machine. In his loneliness, he often seeks out human and other companions to keep the emptiness at bay. Even though he is nigh on immortal, he needs the human connection.
7. Who would you most like to see guest star on either DW or TW? Callum Keith Rennie. I'd love to see him as a fucked up villian on TW that once had a past with Jack. (okay, so I want more hot boykissing and pouty Ianto).

1. What do you think of people with no urge to create? Boggles my mind. Even if it's just a scrapbook or doodles or thoughts of song lyrics, I can't imagine *not* having the urge.
2. When did you last doodle? Yesterday, during a very, very, extremely long client phone call.
3. TARDIS or Stargate and why? TARDIS, because it's way more flexible. I can go anywhere and when.
4. What did you find when you last Googled yourself? Someone blogged about my panel at Malice Domestic.
5. What's your favorite sound? You are EVIL!! I asked this of my panelists at Malice, re: their characters and they are threatening to come after me. ::g:: My own favorite sound is the sound of genuine laughter. Joy is so often suppressed in our blasé culture.
6. How would you feel if all of your characters and stories (pro writing and fan) came to life in an alternate universe as you wrote them? Fannishly, I'd love to see Fraser and Ray live a lovely happy life together, same with John & Rodney. I'd love to meet Tucker, my protagonist's brother, and perhaps Bea, but Keira often scares me. Overall, though, the idea that I'm creating some sort of Heinlenesque otherworld where my fiction is real, is pretty nifty.
7. Who would you most like to ask WTF ? Probably, the current political administration, b/c really. WTF????????

Okay - because I *suck* at responding these days, please forgive the lateness.
1. What do you think of trusting your work to MS Word? ANATHEMA! I use Scrivener to write and am happier for it.
2. When did you last blog on company time? Hmm, probably over a month ago. Now that I'm managing 2 teams, the days fly by and I have no down time.
3. Beer or hard liquor and why? Hard liquor. I've sadly lost my taste for beer over the years, even though there are many lovely ones.
4. What did you do on your last vacation? Reunited/met my Cuban family in Miami. Cousins and uncle/aunt on my late father's side.
5. What's your favorite flavor of ice cream? Vanilla and all its variations (e.g., sweet cream, french vanilla, etc.)
6. How would you react to a hard drive failure? Curse and then restore from one of my many backups. (I'm a wee bit paranoid, so I have multiple backups of crucial files).
7. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a novel? Wow, that's a good one. For sheer learning experience: Neil Gaiman, Charles deLint or Tanya Huff. Except I'd probably be all fangrrl when I did so. ::g::
